Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting temporary leadership opportunity within the Performance & Systems Integration portfolio, lasting approximately 15 to 18 months. As the Pharmacy Systems Standards & Support Manager, you will lead the Pharmacy System Standards & Support team, which includes Pharmacist I and Clinical Informaticians serving as Subject Matter Operational Readiness Experts (SMORE). In this role, you’ll report directly to the Performance & Systems Integration Director and provide strategic direction, team leadership, and oversight for initiatives that support pharmacy systems and technologies across Alberta. You’ll be responsible for strategic planning, development, and ongoing optimization of pharmacy-related applications, including Clinical Pharmacy Information Systems (CPIS), associated software, hardware, and processes that enhance efficiency and effectiveness for inpatient pharmacy teams province-wide. Collaboration is key. You’ll build strong partnerships with pharmacy staff and leadership, Willow and Connect Care Application Leads, and Digital Health teams such as IT, CMIO, and Connect Care Clinical Operations. Representing the Pharmacy Systems Standards & Support team, you’ll contribute to working groups and committees that influence system standards and innovation.

Description:

The Manager performs a key leadership role within Pharmacy Alberta and reports to the Director, Performance & System Integration. This position will work with the Director to provide the direction, team leadership and delivery of activities related to pharmacy systems support. The position is responsible and accountable for making key decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for contributing to the achievement of the goals of Pharmacy Alberta. The Manager is a leadership role that includes strategic planning, development, building, implementation and ongoing maintenance of all aspects of pharmacy-related applications. This includes any technology utilizing medication-related data and knowledge and the processes needed to optimize the effectiveness and efficiency of these systems operated by the pharmacy personnel at each of health service provider facilities. The Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key partners and leaders in order to provide strategic and operational leadership for all pharmacy related informatics programs and services.

Required Qualifications:

Registered with the Alberta College of Pharmacy as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician. A minimum of 5 years in hospital pharmacy practices, ideally in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity and a minimum of 3 years of experience in the delivery of pharmacy services including involvement in drug distribution systems. Proven leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, mentoring, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Proven effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services and customer satisfaction. Demonstrated ability to manage change, with strong problem solving and strategic thinking skills. Demonstrated track record of working effectively in multi-disciplinary teams. Knowledge and experience with hospital pharmacy business processes. Understanding the business of pharmacy; the distribution, clinical, and inventory requirements and the technology required to support these functions.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Ability to translate complex concepts into understandable components.

Preferred Qualifications:

SMORE/CT experience is an asset. Understanding of Clinical Informatics and comfort working with different clinical systems and technology. Training in education, health administration, leadership, or other equivalent experience. A demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development. Experience in multidisciplinary roles and with other AHS application teams, program areas, government organizations, and technology vendors.
