Family Counsellor
Your Opportunity:
The Family Counsellor will function as a pivotal member of the Youth at Risk Development Program (YARD) which is a partnership between the Calgary Police Services (CPS) and the City of Calgary's Community and Neighborhood Services (CNS)- Community Social Development Division and Recovery Alberta. YARD is a community-based early intervention initiative that supports youth who at risk, affiliated with a gang or involved in gang activity. The Family Counsellor is an advanced clinical position and provides mental health and risk assessment, triage and referral, clinical resource to YARD teams, clinical consultation and brief intervention with youth aged 10 to 17 years old. This position requires skills in engaging youth and families and assisting them in navigating systems to obtain appropriate supports. The candidate must have strong assessment and therapy skills and the proven ability to provide evidence-based episodic treatment. Participation in program development and evaluation and group supervision is required. Strong collaborative skills and understanding of partnerships and connection with community partners and the ability to coordinate service delivery with other CAAMHP services and staff is required.
Description:
As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:Masters level education in Mental Health related field including Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapist Three to five years of recent experience in community mental health and/or an acute child psychiatric setting required. Must pass an Enhanced Security Clearance conducted by the Calgary Police Service. Social Workers must be registered with ACSW and authorized to perform psychosocial intervention. Nursing, Psychology, or Occupational Therapist applicants must have supervised training in providing assessment and family therapy and be registered with a regulatory body. Knowledge and skills in assessment, crisis intervention, treatment and brief therapy. Able to work independently in multiple school and community setting. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to function in changing environments. Experience working with Child and Family Services, health partnership initiatives, multicultural groups and program development.
Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of or previous experience working with immigrants/refugees would be an asset. Brain Story Certification.
