Family Counsellor

Your Opportunity:

Calgary - Youth Substance Use and Mental Health Services (YSUMHS) is looking for a responsible, reliable, flexible, team minded professional to join our Community Outpatient Team in the role of Family Counsellor. The role centers around the provision of individual, group, and family treatment services. Along with the required qualifications, the successful candidate will possess skills related to teamwork, communication, and the engagement of very complex clients and their families. As an Family Counsellor, you will be conducting screening, assessment and treatment planning for adolescents and families struggling with problem substance use and co-occurring mental health issues. You will take a client and family centered approach to developing and implementing focused and effective treatment plans. You will comfortably and competently complete appropriate referrals where necessary or complimentary in supporting youth and families in achieving their treatment goals. You will work effectively on a multidisciplinary team including other family counsellors, addiction counsellors, nursing staff, recreation therapist and psychiatry. In addition, you may be asked to support by responding to the diverse and changing operating needs of your own program and larger YSUMHS unit. This position may involve the provision of outpatient services at various sites across Calgary and surrounding area and as such a vehicle is required. Occasional evening work may be required. The successful candidate with have recent training and/or education in relevant therapeutic modalities including Motivational Interviewing, CBT, DBT and other evidence-based therapies.

Description:

As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.
