Mental Health Aide

Make a difference in the lives of Albertans by joining Forensic Psychiatry Services as a Mental Health Aide. Reporting to the Manager, the Mental Health Aide works in alignment with the established protocols for the NCR-MD (Not Criminally Responsible Due to Mental Disorder) program in the community rehabilitation and recovery homes, specifically Lighthouse. This recovery home is in southwest Calgary. Responsibilities include assisting other members of the multidisciplinary team in completing daily/scheduled tasks, assisting the six residents of the recovery home with daily living skills; attending and encouraging residents to attend scheduled programs/ meetings, groups and conferences; assisting with transporting residents and supporting residents with linkages to community supports. This position does involve frequent transportation of residents in a fleet vehicle. The successful candidate will adhere to Recovery Alberta policies, as well as the principles of Recovery Oriented Care - choice, dignity, privacy, individuality, and independence.
Description:
As a Mental Health Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team to provide a welcoming and safe care environment. You will assist in the provision of direct patient/client care as delegated in a person-centered, recovery oriented and safe manner. In this position, you will assist and / or promote independence to patients/clients in completing activities of daily living as well as assisting other health professionals with providing treatments and observing and reporting relevant patient/client information to professional staff. You will assist new patients/clients and families with orientation, and assist in the general support of the work area.

Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team. Minimum of 1 year experience in the last 5 years (inpatient or outpatient) working with individuals with chronic severe mental health issues. Ability to demonstrate understanding of mental health decomposition. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer skills required. Must have a valid driver's license and be able operate Recovery Alberta fleet vehicles. NVCI training. Current BLS Certification.
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of Health Care Aide or Mental Health Aide Certificate or equivalent. Knowledge related to the Not Criminally Responsible Due to Mental Disorder patients and applicable legislation. Food Handling course. Knowledge regarding Calgary community agencies. Knowledge relating to recovery and rehabilitation. Connect Care training.
