The Community Geriatric Mental Health (GMH) team is a multidisciplinary group supporting older adults with addiction and mental health concerns to live independently in their home. The team includes mental health clinicians from a variety of clinical backgrounds and psychiatrists who specialize in geriatric mental health and addictions. The Community GMH team provides psychiatric assessment; goal focused and time limited individual therapy for clients. This position also provides a blend of case management to support and transition clients to their medical home in the community. This position can include group facilitation. Description:

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years mental health care experience within the last 5 years, providing assessment and therapeutic intervention to clients with acute and/or chronic mental health disorders required. At least 2 years' experience in geriatric mental health required. At least 2 years experience in Community Health care required. Experience working outreach. Experience working on a multidisciplinary team and in collaboration with other health partner agencies. Experienced in assessment and report writing. Extensive knowledge of clinical mental health and medical issues commonly seen in the older adult population. Proficient understanding of dementia and delirium as well as treatment practices for this subgroup of mental health clients. Ability to work in a fast-paced subacute environment. Ability to work independently and within an outreach model. Strong mental health therapy and intervention skills. Excellent verbal and written communications skills essential. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Strong connect care and word processing skills are required. Ability to set priorities and organize time effectively. A demonstrated track record of developing effective relationships with diverse professionals required. Familiar with the Alberta Recovery Model.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency with Connect Care skills/experience is a strong asset. Strong skills in different therapy modalities is an asset.
