Mental Health Clinician
Your Opportunity:
The Rockyview Day Hospital is an alternative to inpatient admission within Addiction and Mental Health acute care services. This four-week program operates on a stabilization model and supports patients in enhancing coping skills. The Mental Health Clinician (MHC) is a key member of the patient's treatment team and will work as a primary therapist and case manager with assigned patients within the Day Hospital. The MHC will be involved in a range of clinical activities related to planning, implementing and evaluating interventions with patients including initial and ongoing patient assessment and intervention, individual and group facilitation, and facilitation of discharge planning. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with concurrent addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team in the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. In addition, you will be responsible for timely documentation of clinical activities, clinical data entry and regular participation in clinical consultation, team education and ongoing program planning, development and evaluation. You may be required to provide supervision to practicum students. A demonstrated commitment to collaborative practice to enhance client health outcomes; ability to set realistic expectations and boundaries in the therapeutic relationship; strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills; ability to effectively manage change; ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team; crisis management; and knowledge of psychotherapeutic modalities are requirements of this role.
Description:
As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 3 years’ experience providing mental health assessment, treatment, consultation, discharge planning and crisis stabilization in an adult acute psychiatric setting within the last 5 years. Formal training and a minimum 2 years’ experience facilitating or co-facilitating individual and group therapy using a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities to adults within Addiction and Mental Health in the last 5 years. Knowledge of adult mental health resources with Calgary Zone.
Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree. Training and experience using the following therapeutic modalities: CBT, DBT, CBSST. Theoretical training and application of family interventions. Theoretical knowledge or experience with Trauma Informed Care Demonstrated professional development and/or participation in quality improvement initiatives.
