Your Opportunity:

This is a temporary 6 month full-time position. This Adult Mental Health and Addiction Community Clinic position, based out of the Medicine Hat Provincial Building, serves adult clients experiencing mental health challenges within Medicine Hat and surrounding communities. This exciting career opportunity would be ideal for an energetic, passionate, and dynamic clinician looking to provide excellent short-term, goal-oriented mental health therapy. In this position, you will need to integrate evidence-based treatment modalities tailored to clients' needs, employing an inclusive, trauma-informed counselling approach that prioritizes equity and diversity to enhance well-being and mitigate the effects of mental health issues and stigma. This role includes individual work (screening, crisis intervention, assessment, case formulation, direct counselling, consultation, case management, and referrals), group facilitation, and active collaboration with inter-disciplinary colleagues. The position will be required to work Mondays through Fridays, with a mix of day shifts (8:00am-4:30pm) and some later shifts during the early evenings up until 7:15 p.m.

Description:

As a Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs will be considered: Bachelor of Social Work including training and experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have Psychosocial Intervention Authorization. Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing with: Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or, Experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Minimum of 3 years of relevant mental health experience. Candidate must demonstrated ability to integrate multiple evidence-based therapeutic approaches into clinical practice, including screening, crisis intervention, assessment, case formulation, treatment planning, direct counselling, and consultation. Strong communication, adaptability, collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and clinical decision-making skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in relevant field is preferred. Experience with EPIC/Connect Care is an asset. Five years or more of direct counselling experience in Addictions and Mental Health is preferred. Current certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and suicide intervention training is considered an asset. Additional credentials, training, and experience in specialized evidence-based therapeutic modalities are highly desirable.
