This opportunity supports Correctional Health Services in an in-person role at the Calgary Remand Centre. The position is based on site within the facility and is part of a dedicated clinical team. Our close-knit clinical team is all about collaborative practice in this unique and challenging clinical setting. Reporting to the Centre Manager for Calgary Remand Centre Healthcare Services, the Nurse Practitioner role is an important part of our interdisciplinary team. Our population presents dynamic and complex needs in the provision of care within custody and criminal justice system. The Nurse Practitioner utilizes a collaborative practice approach in assessing adult patients who present for primary care (routine screening and disease management) and urgent care (injuries, illness) while incarcerated. Accountabilities include: clinical practice, leadership and consultation, research, and education and counselling.
Description:
As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum experience of 6 months in the last 12 months working in primary care or acute care. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining continuing professional and practice competencies through professional development activities. Ability to independently perform advanced, focused and/or comprehensive health assessments. Excellent communication skills. Strong leadership skills. Experience working with vulnerable populations.
Preferred Qualifications:Proficient in Connect Care. Familiar with Opioid Agonist Therapy modalities. Correctional experience.
