Your Opportunity:

The high incidence of serious co-morbid physical health problems and reduced life span amongst persons with chronic and persistent mental illness is well documented in the literature. The incidence of co morbid addiction issues and mental illness is also well documented as are the barriers this populations experience in accessing primary care. The nurse practitioner role within Mental Health & Addiction is dedicated to providing service to this vulnerable population within Fort McMurray. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) offers regular health monitoring, diagnosis, treatment, referrals and follow-up of physical health problems as well as mental health interventions through a holistic client care model. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) assesses client service needs within the target population and develops the format for providing that service through the Wellness Program. This includes determining scheduling formats (both drop in and scheduled appointments). Home visits, off site clinics and clinical support to other programs who serve the same population. The Nurse Practitioner (NP) collaborates with community stakeholders to provide drop-in clinics. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program, with a minimum of a Master's degree. Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years experience working in an Mental Health and Addiction setting. Knowledge of philosophy of Harm reduction practice. Experience working with vulnerable populations. High degree of cultural competence as it relates to working with Indigenous people. Ability to foster partnerships, establish and maintain strong working relationships with public agencies and government.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) certification. Previous experience working with those facing co-morbid conditions including mental health.
