Your Opportunity:

The Psychologist I works on an interdisciplinary team to complete capacity assessments under the Personal Directives Act, The Powers of Attorneys Act and the Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship Act along with other applicable provincial legislation that govern health care professionals and psychologists. Key responsibilities include capacity assessments, conduct comprehensive capacity assessments (e.g., personal and financial decision-making). Evaluate cognitive functioning, insight, judgment, and risk. Integrate clinical interviews, collateral information, and standardized assessment tools. Documentation & legal reporting, complete formal capacity assessment reports and other legislated forms and documents in accordance with legislation and policy. Provide clear, defensible clinical opinions. Maintain detailed and timely documentation in health records. Interdisciplinary Collaboration, work closely with clients, families, care providers, social workers, nurses, physicians, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, and legal representatives. Participate in case conferences and team-based decision-making. Consultation & Education, provide consultation to healthcare providers regarding capacity concerns. Support staff understanding of capacity assessment principles. Deliver education on assessment standards and ethical considerations. Risk & ethical practice, identify risks related to self and others based on the adult’s decision-making practices. Apply ethical principles in complex situations involving autonomy and protection. Ensure culturally sensitive and trauma-informed practice.

Description:

As a Psychologist I, you will work with or within teams to provide a range of standard level psychology services to patients and their families within the established standards, directives, and policies for the work environment. Your services may include psychological screening and/or assessment, diagnosis, interventions, rehabilitation, prevention and promotion, as well as educational activities. You will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals in planning and implementing services that align with best practices and ethical and professional standards. You will provide input to the interprofessional team related to psychological factors, barriers and dynamics that influence client treatment planning, participation, outcomes and team functioning, and consult and collaborate with teams and community services. Your duties may also include providing supervision to psychometrists, provisional psychologists and/or masters level psychology students, and providing input into program, policy and/or procedure development in addition to participating in formal research initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from an accredited university program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

At least 2 years' experience working in adult mental health, older adults, cognitive assessment, or complex case formulation, within the last 5 years. Core Competencies: Advanced communication, interviewing skills, and clinical assessment. Strong written communication and legal-quality documentation. Critical thinking and clinical judgment. Ability to manage complex, high-risk cases. Interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidate has declared formal assessment as an area of competence with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Strong Connect Care skills are an asset.
