The Summit: Jim & Marian Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience is a stand-alone facility designed to provide accessible, evidence-informed mental health services for children, youth, and their families in Calgary and surrounding communities. As a member of the Patient and Family Centered Care team at The Summit, the Recreation Therapist is responsible for the development, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of therapeutic recreation services that enhance the mental health and well-being of children, youth, and families. The Recreation Therapist provides evidence-informed, strengths-based recreation interventions through individual and group programming that promote engagement, emotional regulation, social connection, skill development, and overall wellness. Working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, the Recreation Therapist supports clients across multiple Summit programs, including the Day Hospital (DH) and Intensive Community Treatment Services (ICTS). Responsibilities include assessing client recreation and leisure needs, developing and facilitating therapeutic recreation groups, providing individual recreation therapy interventions and sessions, collaborating with clinical teams to support treatment goals, contributing to the ongoing development and evaluation of recreation programming, and leading or supporting centre-wide therapeutic recreation initiatives across The Summit. The Recreation Therapist will work with children and youth primarily with Summit programs on site as well as complimentary sites/programs including the Children's Day Treatment Program at Richmond Road Diagnostic Treatment Center.
Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients' treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 2 years of experience working with youth who are impacted by mental health challenges as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Experience facilitating individual and group recreational therapy programs.
Preferred Qualifications:Collaborative Problem Solving training. Brain Story Certification. Suicide risk assessment training.
