Recreation Therapist I
Your Opportunity:
The Recreation Therapist works on an adolescent mental health unit supporting youth and families experiencing an acute mental health crisis. Using Collaborative Problem Solving, Attachment needs, and Trauma Informed Care, the RT supports youth in understanding mental health, develop strategies to manage their mental illness, and support families in this time of crisis. The RT works as a collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team and further engages in group facilitation and individual support.
Description:
As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management of clients' treatment progress and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Additional Required Qualifications:Within the last 5 years, 1-3 years proven skills and experience in psychiatric recreation therapy. Must have skills in Recreation assessments and interventions. The RT works as a collaborative member of a multi-disciplinary team and further engages in group facilitation and individual support. Mental health experience in acute care, inpatient psychiatry experience required. Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position. NVCI required Minimum 1-year recent mental health experience (acute care or community). Registered with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA).
Preferred Qualifications:Previous child and adolescent experience preferred. Certification in the Core Brain Story (available through the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative) is preferred in addition to knowledge of Collaborative Problem Solving, Attachment needs, and Trauma Informed approach.
