Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Care Manager, Children, Youth & Families Addiction and Mental Health (CYF AMH), the Pediatric Consultation & Liaison Outpatient Nurse works closely with the Pediatric CL Psychiatrists to support triaging referrals, assisting with medication management, coordinating referrals and working collaboratively with internal and external partners to facilitate continuity of care, while working within a Family Centered, concurrent capable framework. This nursing position works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure success in clinical services by providing mental health nursing support to children, youth and their families who are to medical units throughout the Stollery Children’s Hospital. Also, collaborates and supports the Inpatient PCLP nurse and MAAST team with consults and referrals. This position requires well developed skills in children’s mental health and risk assessment, utilizing a goal directed, solution focused, strength-based approach. This individual will possess the ability to work closely with the Stollery nurses, pediatricians, social workers, psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, community family physicians, and other community based partners both internal and external. Current relevant knowledge of both facility and community resources is essential to effectively assess risk and initiate safety plans with appropriate individuals. The Inpatient Nurse requires strong skills in documentation and data collection and will also be involved in case conferences, staff meetings, professional development activities, as well as other related duties as required. The current schedule is Monday to Friday days.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58/hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with Recovery Alberta /UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Must have a diploma or degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing - degree preferred. A minimum of 3 to 5 years clinical experience in Children's Mental Health is required. BCLS-HCP certification. Excellent assessment and communications skills are required. Preference given for experience working in an acute inpatient setting in addition to Children's Mental Health. Experience & knowledge working with pediatric patients with physical and psychiatric complexities.

Preferred Qualifications:

Involvement in family teaching and knowledge of community programs related to Child & Adolescent Mental Health is preferred. Connect Care experience is preferred.
