Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Program Manager of Community Crisis Services, the Mobile Response Team Nurse works as a fully contributing member of an interdisciplinary team providing crisis intervention, consultation, assessment, referral, advocacy, and stabilization to clients experiencing acute mental health concerns. The nurse may be required to dispense, administer, and monitor medication in infrequent situations to assist a client to address the crisis situation and to support the crisis work of the whole team. Staff work out of the Sheldon M. Chumir Health Centre providing 24/7 telephone and in person care to individuals anywhere within Calgary city limits and south, including Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley. Calls are received from the Distress Centre, police, professionals, and non-professionals (i.e. family members, friends, neighbors, etc.). The nurse can assist in the creation of a plan with the caller, which may include meeting with the identified client to provide resources, helping mitigate the crisis, or completing a crisis mental health assessment. This can occur in the client’s home, a Recovery Alberta location, or elsewhere in the community with consideration to safety and privacy. MRT is the core team responsible for psychosocial response in the event of a disaster or mass casualty event. The Nurse must be able to provide psychological first aid and other stepped-care responses when deployed by ZEOC. The Nurse provides input to client care planning and to the team's clinical decision-making related to psychosocial factors, barriers and dynamics. Critical clinical decisions of life-threatening proportions are made on a frequent basis in order to assure the safety of clients and the community as well as to plan appropriate assessment and treatment follow-up. The MH Clinician must make such decisions spontaneously and independently.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA), College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Minimum 4 years of crisis assessment and stabilization within an Addiction and Mental Health community setting experience required. Demonstrated ability to complete a mental health assessment in non-traditional settings, including risk assessment, mental status evaluation and psychosocial assessment is required. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary community health team and to accept and request direction is required Demonstrated professional, mature manner required Demonstrated teaching abilities, strong decision making, assessment and intervention skills required. Demonstrated ability to manage varying levels of clinical acuity and ability to work successfully with a heterogeneous client population required. Must be able to lift 20lbs. Must be able to climb 7 flights of stairs and ambulate quickly.

Preferred Qualifications:

Diploma or degree in nursing - RN, RPN. Master’s education preferred. Awareness of community agencies and resources for addiction and mental health clients (both inside and outside of Recovery Alberta). Training in Psychological First Aid.
