Join our team at Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatric Centre (SAFPC) as a Registered Nurse (RN)/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN). Reporting to the Treatment Unit Care Manager of the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Center – NCR Unit, the RN/RPN will carry out professional duties with the site’s Not Criminally Responsible Due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) program and the interdisciplinary team. Adhering to the professional standards of practice and the codes of conduct of CRNA and CRPNA. Our treatment team adheres to Recovery Alberta policies and principles of Recovery, Patient/Family Centered, and Trauma Informed models of care. Duties include and are not limited to patient supervision in and out of the SAFPC building, attending/facilitating groups, promoting the enhancement of independence via the secure recovery and rehabilitation model, preparing pre-board reports, participating in scheduled Criminal Code Review Board hearings, medication administration, 1:1, conferences, and maintaining a safe and secure environment. The successful candidate will cross train to work on the inpatient assessment unit. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Active or Eligible Registration with CRNA or with CRPNA. Minimum of two years of recent experience, with an FTE, in a general mental health setting, inpatient experience necessary. Solid interpersonal communication skills, organization skills and critical thinking skills. Understanding of secure recovery focused practice. Demonstrated knowledge of mental health diagnoses, treatment, and decompensation. Demonstrated knowledge of psychotropic medications and their side effects. Nursing practicum in forensics will be considered in the absence of 1 year experience.
Preferred Qualifications:Within previous 5 years, 1-3 year's experience in psychiatric assessment, medical assessment and crisis intervention. Familiarity with medical capabilities, assess and respond to medical emergencies. Forensic mental health experience preferred. Knowledge of the Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) legislation and the Criminal Code Review Board. Current nonviolent crisis intervention (NVCI), Connect Care training.
