Join the committed team at Alberta Hospital in Edmonton as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) and take on a meaningful role that will profoundly impact the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges. The Neuromodulation department at Alberta Hospital Edmonton is looking for a registered nurse/registered psychiatric nurse to work within the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) suite. Reporting to the Unit Manager, the registered nurse/registered psychiatric nurse works as part of an interdisciplinary team in the coordination, care, and monitoring of both inpatients and outpatients throughout their treatment in the ECT suite. The successful candidate will welcome and engage patients and families/caregivers referred to the program, provide education and support to various patient groups and their families, and provide stage-matched care to a variety of patient and family/care-giver populations and throughout all phases of the ECT procedure, including pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure recovery, as per professional nursing standards, hospital and program policies and procedures and in accordance with all legal and ethical standards.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or Eligible Registration with CRNA (College of Registered Nurses of Alberta) or CRPNA (College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta). 2 years of recent ECT, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and/or Intensive Care Unit experience is required, as well as working knowledge of procedural sedation and airway management. Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, basic life support (BLS) certification, and IV certification is also required. The registered nurse/registered psychiatric nurse must have the ability to effectively collaborate with patients, families, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals in the provision of care. The registered nurse/registered psychiatric nurse must demonstrate excellent assessment, organizational and patient care skills, along with the flexibility, tolerance, and ability to deal with challenging situations.  Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills are required, as well as the ability to independently identify learning needs and seek guidance in professional practice where knowledge deficits occur.

Preferred Qualifications:

Non-violent crisis intervention training is preferred. Recent experience working within mental health and addictions. Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act of Alberta.
