Adult Community Services provides a wide range of addiction and mental health treatment to the residents of the City of Edmonton and surrounding suburban areas. The ACS program adheres to the Edmonton Zone Addiction & Mental Health Principles of Care providing quality, client focused, recovery based, concurrent capable, culturally appropriate care to those seeking supports/services within Addictions and Mental Health. Services are offered to clients and their families in the least intrusive and most appropriate manner, and include assessment, individual and group treatment, and consultation. Interventions may be done in the clinic, community, or in a client’s home, dependent on the identified needs. As a Single Independent Living Support Worker (ILS) you will be part of an interdisciplinary team providing support to individuals recovering from a mental illness and/or addictions who are connected with the Sherwood Park & Fort Saskatchewan Clinics. The ILS worker assists clients to develop and maintain skills as identified in the treatment plan associated with the goal of living independently in the community. As a vital member of the team, the ILS worker assists with the implementation of the client treatment plans by providing goal-oriented independent living support and assistance with activities of daily living. Assistance may include but is not limited to supporting with budgeting, grocery shopping, accessing food bank, transit training, attending physician appointments with clients, teach cooking skills. The ILS Worker must work well within a team approach; have effective communication, observation, and factual reporting skills, as well as have the ability to multi-task and prioritize requests.
Description:
As a Single Independent Living Support (ILS) worker, you will be part of an interprofessional team, assisting patients (client, resident) to develop and maintain skills as identified in the care plan, associated with living independently in the community. You will provide support with preventative health care, health maintenance, quality of life, life skills coaching and connect patients to appropriate community supports. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:A minimum of 2-years of experience working with persons with a mental illness, in a community setting preferred. A strong awareness of community resources and recovery model. Ability to work well in a team and seek consultation when necessary must be demonstrated. Must be flexible and able to meet the demands of changes in work assignments. Must have proficient use of the English language oral and written. Candidate must be able to tolerate regular twisting and reaching, repetitive hand movements, keyboarding and telephone handling. Must be able to lift up to 30lbs without limitations. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Non-Violent Crisis Intervention. Strong communication skills including conflict management and resolution. Ability to ambulate, climb stairs, and move quickly without limitations in a variety of environments. Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:Mental Health Aide, Personal Care Aide, or equivalent health-related certificate/diploma and experience required. Extensive knowledge of the resources of Addiction and Mental Health and the community. A strong understanding of client resources in the community and knowledge of mental health legislation including Community Treatment Orders is an asset. Strong skill set with electronic medical recording (EMR/Connect Care).
